Archtivism: Towards a sustainable and inclusive city.
At the ‘Dreaming about a sustainable and inclusive city’, (Dromen over een duurzame en inclusieve stad) an evening at Pakhuis de Zwijger, I was asked to share my my vision for a sustainable and inclusive city. To dream about the future city and what’s needed for us to achieve it.
The New European Bauhaus initiative connects the European Green Deal to our living spaces and calls on all Europeans to envision a sustainable and inclusive future. Based on this idea, the Center of Expertise for Creative Innovation and Designing Cities for All organized a livecast at Pakhuis de Zwijger in which these future scenarios were visualized. What will our future cities look like, who will live in these cities and what are the steps we need to take to get there? An evening with dreamers, thinkers and designers.
Watch this video below where I share 4 forms of Archtivism, each featuring a unique avenue to designing the city of tomorrow: Social, Environmental, Economic and Technological Archtivism.
Archtivism: Towards a sustainable and inclusive city.
For the sake of equity, our wellbeing and that of the planet—I strongly believe we need to rethink how we design our cities.
And that’s where Archtivism comes in.
Archtivism is a term I coined for a movement of architecture industry stakeholders who drive and inspire reform to foster positive changes in society.

More on Designing Cities for All
Designing Cities for All is a two-year program by Pakhuis de Zwijger starting in 2021 supported by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie. The program focuses on the role that designers play in designing and shaping cities for and by everyone. The program puts forward the notion of ‘Cities of Belonging’, which are described as “cities in which everyone feels and is allowed to feel at home.” The focus is put not only on spatial design but also on the digital domain and our public systems, services, and products.
